It ´s interesting fact, that most people that have taken the body age questionnaire test in my book 10 years Younger in 10 weeks (available on amazon.com) listed the top factor to speed up the ageing process to be dehydration. Meaning they are not drinking enough water. What about you?
Tired, confused, memory loss, dizziness, dry, saggy, wrinkled skin, dry brittle hair and nails, cold fingers and toes, obstipation and hard stools, skin condition caused my maldigestion, UTI ( urinary tract infection), headaches, pain, muscles tension and cramps.
Let´s talk about water. You´re body is 70-75% water. Water is involved in every bodily function and if you lack it, the body will try to get it from every fluid containing source: The blood, cell fluid, intracellular fluid, from stools and urine. This will have great impact on your psychical and mental health.
How not drinking enough water has a lot to do with ageing. A whole lot in fact. 7 very good reasons to boost your water intake and learn to love it!
If you have problem with your digestion and struggling long hours in the restroom you probably could use a drink or two. Of pure water! The body is very wise. It knows, that the vital organs; heart , kidneys, brain, liver and lungs need essential nutrients more than the rest of the body; to survive. If suffering from dehydration it will take what´s available. Here is where constipation comes alive. Dry water depleted stools, that is hard to get rid of from the system (gut) and they can be there for days and turn into uncomfortable stones you have to carry around wherever you go. This not only affect your wellbeing but your stomach is bloated, overgrowth of fermenting bacteria and yeast. Dehydration is a co-player in leaky gut syndrome, which involves increased toxin overload in the liver. Also this condition can create quite a unpleasant odor from all the openings of the body, including the mouth. That can have an effect on the pleasure of kissing.
If you like to be your best form, focused and concentrated, sharp on facts and take pride in remembering your friends names and even phone numbers, not to mention your spouse’s, parents’ and kids’ birthdays or important appointments ( just keep on forgetting the unimportant ones )…you need to drink water. If you are forgetting things all the time and feel confused and tired try to drink more water before you see your doctor and he or she will diagnose you as being dement. You probably are not. You just need more to drink.
In the morning, when you look in the mirror and face yourself, perhaps you love what you see most of the time. That's good. Keep it up, whatever you are doing. But if you get struggled by a fluffy face, and eyes lying deep in your head surrounded with dark spots, and “the curtains “ are almost down covering your sight so you fortunately are missing the whole picture. This is a sign of kidneys in distress. You are not drinking enough water. The kidneys are responsible of filtering toxins, salts and ingested water from the bloodstream. If the body is dehydrated the kidneys cannot do the work properly. It is not a good idea to store toxins in the body. And you can see the signs in your face. Maybe you just had a fun night out with the girls or the boys and you had too much alcohol? Maybe the food was too salty or you had too much snacks or maybe you have been eating too much take-away lately and we know it is way too salty. But whatever it is. You have the message written all over your face. Start with drinking more water. Maybe that´s it.
4. Glowing skin
Dry skin and wrinkled skin involves two major reasons. Water retention and lack of subcutaneous fat. If you want to boost your natural fillers and look more youthful, vital and have beautiful glowing skin, do three things. Splash ice cold water several times in your face every morning. Air dry if you can or just patch the skin dry. Drink a big glass of chilled water on an empty stomach. Make sure you drink 2 L pure water during the day. And eat fat! Pure no-processed plant oils from organic flax seeds and grass fed butter and organic coconut oil. Every day. Fat binds the water in the skin layer dermis and function as natural filler. You don´t need any botox here! The fat from mainly butter will store in the fat layer and prevent the hollow look that will appear with age. You can prevent that. A bit. For some time.
This will properly surprise you, but being dehydrated can make you overweight! As I mentioned earlier, the body will make sure to make use of all water available during dehydration. By tracking the water out of the bloodstream extra glucose remain there until reaching the liver where it is supposed to be stored as glycogen for later use. But the lack of water will slow the process and store the sugar as fat. The mobilization of fat for energy will also be slowed down because the body needs water to do that. But since the body will compensate for a dehydrated state, your body will take water from inside cells, including fat cells. Less water in fat cells means the fat energy mobilization is compromised. Which means increased body fat. If you are working on decreasing body fat with real wise food and exercise you might not want to forget to drink a lot of pure water.
Feeling hungry all the time? Having annoying cravings for sugar and wheat? Drink mindfully. Pure water is in fact a natural born appetite suppressant. My suggestion is, when feeling hungry, when you are not supposed to, drink a big glass of water. It will calm you down. You can add a bit of lemon juice or a splash of natural acai or pomegranate juice without added sugar. Just for the taste. Drinking pure water is one of the major way we provide our body with fluid. You also get it from the food you eat, especially vegetables and greens and from the fluids you drink. But it will always be better to drink pure water rather than tea, herb tea, coffee or soda. These caffeine rich beverage are in fact diuretic and force out stored water along with certain essential nutrients such as minerals.
The blood is made of 90% water. It's a great master plan because it is the life force! The bloodstream provides your cells and organs with oxygen and nutrients ( make sure it´s the right ones!) and bring the waste products away. So this is pretty essential and important. As I said before, the body will track the water from cells and from blood if needed, for compensate for dehydration coming from not drinking enough pure water. The blood will be thicker, in higher risk for clothing and harder to pump through the system. This can have serious effect on blood pressure and heart disease.
Lack of water is also linked to headaches, pain and tension in joints and muscles and even stomach aches and heartburn.
How much water !
In general you need about 65 oz a day or 2 L of pure water. But you might need more if you live in a warm, dry climate, if you exercise a lot or do a lot of hot yoga or Bikram. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding. And have in mind the diuretic effect from coffee, tea, alcohol and sugary sodas. The same goes for salt and take-away fast food that has a lot of salt.
I am very privileged since I live in Iceland, where the tap water is the most pure in the whole world and in Denmark where the quality is quite ok. Even when I stay in NYC I drink tap water. But I fill my cans and bottles with charcoal filters and – sticks and pray to the goddesses that it will track some of the bad chemicals out.
