If you think someday, that is to day.
I know women and I know what they want and need. Or at least I have a pretty good feeling about what it is having been close to my thousands and thousands of sisters, talking, listening and reflecting together with them the last two decades. What a privilege. What a gift ! It´s inspiring, interesting and so much fun. We are so different, no woman is the same. Every each and one of us is wonderful and unique ! That goes for genes, biological blueprints, bodies and their forms, social differences and family background and then... what we make of it all. How we feel and react in different circumstances is based on our stories and experiences and we make that define who we are. That is normal. That is what makes people so interesting and worth being around. The same event or similar stimuli can create very different response depending on who you are or whom you have defined you as. And that is what makes life easy for some and difficult for others. Personally, if I had the chance to choose, I would take the difficult one. It´s more challenging and gives me valuable and useful wisdom to pick up on the road. And I like to be challenged.
No food fits all. There will be differences in people, how gluten and dairies are tolerated or how onions and nightshade are tolerated with people. Also how the lever manage alcohol or green tea etc.
You are unique!
But, in spite of the uniqueness, there are similarities, of course, we are all human beings, made of bones, flesh, hormones and signaling molecules and digestive enzymes. And that gives me good cards on the hand when it comes to general advice what kind of food to feed and nourish this wonderful design the body is. We all need good protein sources for building materials of muscles, cells organs etc and energy, we all need fats for brain, skin, hormones and nerve system and we need carbs for energy and happiness. ( I'm thinking ice cream ! ).
The body has no use for added sugar, starch, or grains for that matter. Or does it need bad fats, processed or industrial food.
I never say to "my women" that changing the diet or unhealthy lifestyle is easy. ( I do tell them it´s a piece of cake as long as it is a sugar free one ! ). It´s simply not true. The truth is, that the change is not as difficult, hard or complicated as you imagine it is. And that is a huge difference.
I have met a lot of women, and men for that matter, that are very talented when it comes to hold onto "it is too difficult to make the change" story. They really need the change; food, exercise, mindset etc., but they are so comfortable in their sofa, and they would go very far to secure their comfort zone. This story is famous.
" I´m tired, I go to bed exhausted at 9pm. My husband goes out to meet people, but I go to sleep. We have fights over this.
I don´t exercise on a regular basis because I am too tired.
I embarrass myself if I joined a yoga class where everybody could see how bad shape I´m in ! And I don´t have the fancy looking yoga outfit either ! And who said yoga is so terrific anyways!
My stomach is bloated and too big most of the time so I cannot eat all these vegetables and drink green juices they say I need! And I certainly cannot afford to buy organic!
And I am a lousy cook!
And the time it takes being healthy ! At least 4 hours a day! When am I supposed to work" !
It´s a good story isn´t it ! Nobel prize ! Ha ha! I know it to my fingertips ! I have heard it in hundreds of different versions. I had my own many years ago ! Omg! I'm an expert when it comes to affirmations ! Well that is what I love about my work. Inspiring and supporting to make new ones, that match reality a bit better.
1) Eat chocolate everyday (Yay! )
You know the feeling of being happy? Your mind is clear and your body is happy as if all the cells are laughing ? That is what chocolate can do! Be sure it´s so for at least 85% dark one or even better the raw type. I must admit I am not a big fan of 100% raw clean chocolate. For me it has to have added natural sweetness and/or berries and nuts. But I am a big fan of raw cacao beans. I use them a lot in my recipes. Eat 1-2 tbsp of the cracked ones, on your natural yoghurt or the icelandic skyr or blend it in your smoothie. Eat about 25 g of 85-95% dark chocolate every day. It is the healthy superfood polyphenols that makes you happy.
2) Cut out the sugar
Added sugar is the most pro inflammatory "food" ever. If you have the desire to get old in a hurry here is your answer. It´s easy to find since it´s added to most processed food in your store. And they even made it very easy for you and designed sugar in many different versions. So convenient! You can choose white sugar, brown sugar, raw sugar, syrups and starches from wheat and corn ! That will make you bloated, fat around the hips, just as you wanted it! And you´ll be tired and relaxed or you get all excited and get very close to your feelings, especially the angry ones! That's good, isn´t it, to be in touch with your feelings. Right? And all the things you don´t want to remember. Don´t worry. You will forget them. Sugar can do that for you. You don´t have to be focused but just light and fly to the sky ! Ha ha ! You know I'm just fooling around right ? Stay away from the sugar. It´s not good for you.
3) Don't exercise too much
Exercise is good. Look at your own body and you know why. The body is made of muscles, joints and ligaments. It is designed to move and be in motion; jump, climb, run, swim, dance, and stretch in all kind of poses. Something good happens when you move your body. And if you already do, you know why you keep doing it. It makes you feel good. That´s it. You don´t need no other reasons. I could give you all the details about all the diseases exercise on a regular basis prevents such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular conditions, depression, cancer etc. but I'm not. But I will tell you that there is no benefit in prolonged period exercising. The experts on this don't recommend more than 1 hour cardio and when it comes to lifting heavy loads, do it in short sessions it is more effective and you are less likely to get injuries. Too much and prolonged time of exercise can produce a lot of oxidative stress that makes the body distressed and produces inflammation. And that is pro age.
4) Clear negative thoughts
Negative affirmations about yourself or negative thoughts about how you, your husband, your work, friends or whatever it is, works as food in your body and mind. It is a message. And the content and energy in this message will be read and registered in the brain. Signaling molecules and hormones will take action and bring the negative feeling to the rest of the body. I believe that there is a difference in how the body reacts on happy or sad or angry messages. This is about energy. Negative thoughts are not only going to make your day less successful and a good one, but your cells and organs are also suppressed and depressed by it and that will influence on how it works. So if you aim after optimal good function than you might want to include to clear negative thoughts and find out why you are so sad or angry. While you are doing that just fake it until you make it. Think positive. Not all the time, that is ridiculous. But you know, make an effort.
5) Get plenty of sexercise
Sex is healthy. It is the most distressing exercise there is. The combination of touch, passion, deep breath, moving the hips, kissing and experiencing the loving feelings between you and your partner, releases signaling molecules, nitric oxide and endorphins. It makes you relax and feel happy. If you don´t have a partner, no worries, you don´t need him or her to have this good and healthy effect. You can make it happen all by yourself.
If you don´t have that much sex I'm not saying that your life is a fiasco. You can be perfectly happy without it. Or so I hear. Just make sure that you will awake your body by doing some things that creates the same feeling / hormones, signaling molecules etc. Exercise on a regular basis, do your yoga and open up your root chakra, have a massage and eat food rich in L-Arginine such; almonds, fish, sardines and whey protein.
6) Don't be afraid of the sun
We have to change our relationship with the sun. Coming from a country where the sun shines all day and all night long during summer and only shows itself two hours a day during winter, my relation is rather like schizophrenia ! After the long dark winter we cannot have enough sunlight. The first sunbeams in spring, it's still only about 5 degrees C, and you can see people wearing only T shirts and young girls showing bare skin. We have this old Icelandic song every child knows ; "Sol, sol skin á mig" ; "sun, sun shine on me! " Most people are afraid of the sun today, and with good reason. Skin cancer is not a joke. And we have to be very careful. The ozone layer has gone thinner and made us more vulnerable, and lack of antioxidants from greens and vegetables, good fats and healthy proteins is helps this vulnerable body a lot. The fact is, you can eat your way to defense from inside out, so you can be able to stay in the sun a bit longer without using sunscreen that blocks the sun ability to make Vitamin D in your body. And all the other good stuff that the sun does for you. But not to much. We don´t want any sunburns and too many wrincles.
7) Eat your way to harmonious hormones
Your body has so many different hormones. And they all play an important part for balance and harmony. And my guess is, that you don´t know the name and function of let us say 5 of them ? It´s good stuff to know. There are hormones for weight, digestion, growth, getting pregnant, bones, energy just to mention some of the functions influenced by hormones. Imagine them as instruments in a symphony orchestra. All the instruments have to be tuned to play the same piece of music. If one or two instruments are not tuned but play false or in moll instead of ? that will affect all the others and the music will sound terrible.
My point is, we have to balance all hormones if we want balance. You can start with eating more of the good fats and kale such as broccoli, brussel sprouts, red kale, green kale and lignans from flax-, sesame- and pumpkin seeds and organic tofu. I would consider to add good supplements for hormone balance such as magnesium citrate, green tea, sage tea, and licorice root.
8) Don´t fear fat. Embrace the healthy ones.
Balance, focus and feeling calm is something every woman wants. That is, those who live in cities and live the life in the "overhalingsbane". Stress is a killer. Not just literary but it kills energy, sleep, passion, courage, mood, healthy muscles and breaks down normal function of the body. Maybe you know what I´m talking about. First of all you need to reconsider your values in life. But good fats will help your body. Make sure you get saturated fat from butter made from grass-fed animals, organic coconut oil, cold pressed non hydrogenated flaxseed oil and organic primrose oil. No ! Fat will not make you fat ! And you will not get high cholesterol either. If you want both, eat sugar and starch !
9) Proteinase your day and feel the energy
Your energy production is dependent on good proteins. Not just a small piece of an egg or a chicken in your salad is going to do the trick. You have to have a considerable amount because there is a lot of parts in your body that needs it for optimal functions. If you don´t get enough you will not have as strong muscles as you can have, you will not feel as happy as you can be, you will not be as blood sugar balanced as you owe yourself to be. It is a good idea to eat protein for breakfast. That will make your day. Try my protein shake. It is very tasty, homemade, nutritional balanced and by making it yourself you are practicing self love. And that is responsible and a very vital thing to do. The rest of the day you should have; organic eggs, chicken, almonds, tofu, chia seeds and goat cheese.
10) Laugh more! Even if you don´t think it´s funny!
Laughter is good medicine. Actually we have classes for this in Denmark and Iceland. People gather together for one reason only: to laugh ! Isn´t it amazing ! You know how it makes you feel, to laugh. Everything get´s so light and cheerful, the body feels good, the mind is free, and the best part of it is that it is cutaneous. Everybody will laugh with you ! Laughter produces signaling molecules and hormones that support the immune system. Laughter prevents you from getting a cold or the flu and other more severe conditions. Laughter makes you happy. And when you are happy you are much more effective than when you are less happy or even sad or grumpy. You don´t have to laugh all the time. Just have it on your to-do list. And if there is nothing to laugh about or at, make it up.
